“Devolving the delivery of the Warm Homes Plan to mayors and local leaders makes a lot of sense – they know which communities are in most need and how best to target them. They’re also best placed to work with local businesses to facilitate the speedy delivery of the Warm Homes Plan.
“Households will need reassurance that the work being done on their homes will be long-lasting, safe and cost saving for them. The shortcomings of previous insulation schemes mean that we’re having to approach this from a relatively low level of consumer trust. Ultimately, the Warm Homes Plan must be focused on delivery outcomes, not just outputs.
“It’s also vital that a collaborative culture is established, with different regional leaders sharing best practice to drive efficiency in the rollout of the Warm Homes Plan. This isn’t just to reach as many households as possible and complete the work effectively and efficiently, but also to ensure that public money is well spent and delivers the maximum benefit.
“We support around 400,000 people every year, and about 40% of people that we support live in a home rated EPC D or below. Bringing all fuel-poor homes up to EPC C would save households an average of £480 on their annual energy bills. Full delivery of the Warm Homes Plan will help millions of households in the long-term.”
